Tent Mountain project will undergo a federal environmental review

June 28 announcement on the Tent Mountain Project

On June 28, Environment and Climate Change Minister Jonathan Wilkson determined that the Tent Mountain coal mining project warranted a federal review.

Tent Mountain is now designated for a federal environmental assessment and the review order has been issued.  The panel conducting this review will act on behalf of the Alberta Energy Regulator.

This is the latest critical step in the right direction.

Thank you for all your letters, phone calls, and texts to keep the pressure on our leaders.  Your voices are having an impact!

However, the work is not done to protect the Eastern Slopes from coal mining.  Tent Mountain and six other projects could still move ahead.

Let’s continue to demand they save our beautiful and beloved Rockies for generations to come by stopping coal mining before it starts.

One important way you can do this is by sending a letter to key leaders in Alberta. Your letter will be sent to the Coal Policy Committee, Energy Minister Sonya Savage, Environment Minister Jason Nixon, Premier Jason Kenney, and your MLA.  This is an opportunity to share your story of why these mountains matter to you and ask that they recommend a “no coal” policy, not a new coal policy.

Also, please consider making a call to Minister Wilkinson to thank him for making the right decision on Tent Mountain by designating it for a federal review – You can reach his offices by phoning 613-992-3474 or 819-938-3813.
